I just received my X1 Carbon and am noticing something unusual about the left thumb mouse button (is that what it's called?) Anyways I find myself often hitting the far-right edge of the left-button (practically touching the middle thumb button) and I'm finding that it does not register. Similarly if I hit the far-left edge of that button, it doesn't register either... my thumb needs to depress the center of that button in order for it to work. This issue doesn't happen with the right-button... I can hit the far-left and far-right edge of that and it will work fine.
There is something weird about the left thumb button though... it is definitely higher in height than the right thumb button. Seems like a fit & finish issue.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I found the following information for the X1 Carbon User Guide, I hope it is helpful! I believe the Left Click button is what you are referring to when you said the Left thumb mouse button, close enough; I knew what you were referring to and that's all that really matters ![]()

Using the TrackPoint pointing device
The TrackPoint pointing device consists of a pointing stick 1 on the keyboard and three click buttons at the bottom of the keyboard. To move the pointer 5 on the screen, you apply pressure to the nonslip cap on the pointing stick in any direction parallel to the keyboard; the pointing stick itself does not move. The speed at which the pointer moves depends on the pressure you apply to the pointing stick. The functions of the left 4 and right 2 click buttons correspond to those of the left and right mouse buttons on a conventional mouse. The TrackPoint center button 3 called the scroll bar, enables you to scroll Web pages or documents in any direction with no need to use the graphic scroll bars on the side of the window.
Try custominzing the settings to see if makes a difference for the for clicking the Left click button.
You can customize the TrackPoint pointing device and its buttons as follows:
• Switch the functions of the left and right buttons.
• Change the sensitivity of the TrackPoint pointing device.
• Enable the Press-to-Select function.
• Enable the TrackPoint Scrolling Tips.
To customize the settings of the TrackPoint pointing device, do the following:
1. Go to Control Panel and click Hardware and Sound ➙ Mouse ➙ UltraNav.
2. Under TrackPoint, proceed to changing the settings.

I have this very same issue in my X1 carbon touch, and It's driving me crazy.
The problem is that it requires more force to be applied at the right part of the left mouse button (the part close to the middle button).
I think this is a mechanical fault of the micro switch of the mouse.
Anyone else notice this issue?

Friends,
I'll appreciate your input. This issue really bothers me:
My X1CT trackpoint left-button clicker. It doesn't register unless I press right near the center.
Does anyone else notice it?

Hi,
I've encountered the same problem. Even worse, the left and right buttons on the internal mouse would stop responding, while the red pointer/tracker still register.
I brought back the first x1 carbon back to the store last week (within a week of purchase) to ask for a replacement. They agreed as they saw the problem.
Now with my new x1, the same issue still came up. I had to force shutdown my computer and reboot in order for the mouse buttons to work again.
Lenovo, can you please look into this and offer a good fix? This is no fluke as I've encountered this with 2 new x1 laptops.
Thanks!

I have been experiencing the same exact problem ever since I got my new Lenovo near the beginning of April. They won't respond to me, but it's under warranty, so they sent me a box to ship it back for repairs. I don't even know if they CAN repair it, so I'm reluctant to ship it out until I find out more.

I'm also having this problem with both the left and right buttons. I'm going to try taking my computer to a warranty service provider to see if replacing the keyboard fixes it.

Same issue left click button on X1 Carbon 3460-C11 is unreliable on right corner. Took to a service center in San Antonio who disassembled, cleaned, etc with little help. They suggested a new trackpad assembly would not help because of the centered single switch design. I also would like some help.

Are the buttons supposed to click like before ?
Or do they just depress and register ?
Mine have no definitive click to them when they go in.
