I just got a brand new X1 Carbon. I would like to use it with a large (27 in) Dell screen. This screen has a dedicated DP, and I connected it to the mini DP of the X1. I could not get it to work: the X1 does not identify the screen, and the screen displays a message "no display port cable". I used another cable, still does not work.
I know that the screen DP is OK, since I am using it with my older laptop (Lenovo X220), and I get a perfect high-resolution display.
Also, I know that the mini DP on the X1 is not completely "dead", since when I connect it to the screen HDMI entry with a dedicated mini DP to HDMI connector, it works OK.
I followed the instructions in the user manual re updating the monitor driver, etc. The problem still exists.
I will appreciate any help with this problem,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with Display port on your ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply!
I have installed updated Intel HD graphics driver version 10.18.10.3496, and Monitor Information File (INF) version 5.03. I got these from Lenovo site at the following link:
I didnot touch the bios. I will appreciate help in locating the relevant drivers and bios. MTM is:
S/N R9-01XVH9 14/5

Thanks for the instructions and for the link to the UEFI Bios.
I followed it. In the Bios I choose Config -> Display ->
Unfortunately, the only item in the menue there is "Boot Display Device", and the only option available is [Thinkpad LCD].
No option of DisplayPort, or HDMI, and no menue item other than Boot Display Device.
When I connect the screen to the HDMI entry in my X1, the boot process and the Bios screen are seen only in the X1 screen, and not on the external screen. The external screen comes back to life only after the boot ends or exited (and only in HDMI, not in DP).
Does it mean that I need to update the Bios, or I have a hardware problem?

Sorry, my mistake. When "ThinkPad LCD" is lighted in the BIOS display menue, and I hit enter, I do get 4 options, including the options to choose HDMI or Display Port (haste, I presume; I simply didnot think I should hit the "enter" to get the other options. I appologize for that). If I choose these, then I do see the boot and BIOS screens on the external display, but only if the screen is set to HDMI and connected directly to the X1 HDMI entry, or to the X1 mini DP via a mini DP-to-HDMI connector. If the screen is set to DP, and connected directly to the X1 mini DP, nothing is seen on the screen during boot/BIOS process.
Connecting the external screen DP directly to the X1 mini DP is still no go: after boot, the X1 deosnot identify the external screen, and the external screen displays the message "no displayport cable".

Thanks for your reply and the screen images.
I reset the the display to factory setting. It does not have a mini DP entry (screen model is Dell U2711). Only DP entry is available. I use a mini-DP to DP cable in order to connect the X1 to the display. Still no go.
