[X1 gen 3] Can't get either bluetooth or camera to work on new install of win10

2017-06-09, 6:32 AM

Hey!
I've been looking around now for a few hours and I can't seem to solve tihs one by myself. I have mainly been trying to fix bluetooth and tried all suggestions I can find, which ends up being just enabling the service. Neither the cam nor bluetooth radio shows up in the Device manager and even thought the service is running I have no icon in the tray.

And since neither show up in the device manager I can't seem to uninstall their respective driver.  I'm lost, if you need any further info just let me know - any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Of courwe!

After confirming BIOS settings, the mouse only connected for a split second and was very laggy, I didnt look it further  into it but after a few windows updates it a new pair option appeared under the device menu found under *start* and then type" bluetooth". After properly paoring it worked as intended!

Mind you, in hind sight I should have let you know my fresh my fresh win indtall was an Educational Edition from 2016 but i assumed the initial 4gb update would bring me up to spead.

For the record my mouse was a Logutech MX master.

So what solved it for me was:

1. Confirm bios settings as nibs suggested.

2. Tripplcheck you have the latest drivers.

3. Make sure windows is fully up to date.

Agail thank you nibs, hop I can bring back to the community!

  • How was Win10 installed on your machine?
    • What OS was it running previously?
    • Did BT & Camera work on the previous OS?
  • What is the machine type of your X1 gen3? (Not serial number.)
  • Do you have Lenovo's System Update installed on the machine

I have an X1 gen 3, and I'd love to assist you with this problem. Bluetooth and the camera are both working well on my system.

Win10 from the day I got it so, I can't say. Dual booting it with Linux now after a long day of struggling to get that to work - meaning I have a completely virgin system again now.  Linux doesn't find the devices either. Both installed via bootable USB.

I actually never tried before - just got a wireless mouse and just recently wanted use my camera so I Can't tell.
I got a 20BT.

Yes I have Lenovo's system update and updated as I installed.

EIDT: Also Thank you so much!

I'm sorry to hear about the Linux install issues as well. I have Lubuntu 17.04 installed on external USB 3 drive, and it has been working fine for me that way. I did end up using the alternative install iso, but I always use the alternative install. I do happen to have UEFI disabled because my machine came with Win7 and was upgraded to Win10. I know that navigating UEFI can make Linux installs more difficult.

How about we start with basics. Are Bluetooth and the Camera enabled in the BIOS?

Please confirm that they are enabled. If they were disabled, enabling them may prompt Windows to install drivers. So, I'd check for them in the Device Manager.

After that, please install (if you don't have it) Lenovo Solution Center and run a hardware scan. Let me know if the scan shows any issues.

Yeah getting the boot loaders to be nice to each other was a pain - but I got it working after a long time. Turns out arch was easiest of the ones I tried, strangely enough.

I gotta admit I feel a little foolish not checking bios, you are right it was disabled there. Now I just need to get it to work with my device but that's a different story. Thanks so much I really appreciate, wish I could give you more kudos!

Still something fishy, It doesn't find any devices, not the mouse or my phone - just wanted to ask if you just had an idea what I should be looking at.

Ok, so after enabling them in the BIOS you ran Windows Update & Lenovo Update and no devices appeared in Device Manager. (I'm limiting this discussion to Windows because Linux discussions properly belong in the Linux subforum.)

My next suggestion is to try the Intel Driver Update Utility. With any luck, it should detect the hardware and install appropriate drivers.

I'm glad everything is working now!
Was there a particular step that seemed to resolve the issue? It would be helpful for other customers with similar problems to know in the future.
