X121e - 3045-79G . How to use 3G Mobile Broadband ( WWAN)

2012-09-03, 18:32 PM

Hello I have just purchased  a new X121e Type 3045-79G.  The machine has an Ericsson WWAN card installed.

The GPS facility works fine, picks up Satelites and fixes my position.

I have installed  both a UK O2 and a Giff Gaff sim card into the sim reader but cannot connect to mobile broadband. One of the main reasons why I purchased this machine ( instead of an iPad or Galaxy Tab) as i travel a lot and require internet access wherever i go.

How do i get the WWAN mobile 3G to work.  I don't mind trying a sim from another provider ; eg  Vodafone, Three, Orange, O2 etc etc ( Giff Gaff would be my prefered provider though) basically anybody, i just want it to work.

Please help or at least point me to some info so i can help myself.

Thanks in advance.

Tim.

Hi Kwikphix and welcome back to the community,

You will need Lenovo's Access Connections and possibly the activation program.  (The second one on the list)

Hi Can somebody please reasure me that i haven't bought a very expensive brick.

My machine is a X121e  Model number 3045-79G.  I have physically checked and it  definately has an Ericsson F5521gw  mini PCI express WWAN card fitted. It has FRU P/N: 04W3767 on the sticker also. This card was pre-installed at the factory. not fitted by me.

I have phoned Levono Tech Support and they have told me that my machine cannot use the 3G wireless broadband as it does not have an 'Adaptor' fitted.

Any further advice out there ?

Hi Kwikphix,

Don't know what that's all about, but if you have the card in there and you can connect to GPS and it works, then there's no reason why it won't work as a WWAN card.

The card has to be supported by the service provider and you do have to use it by means of Access Connections.

Here's your user manual .  Page 36 shows how to get started.

Hi Tim

Took me quite a while to get this sorted. I have an X201 with the GOBI Card and a Tesco SIM, but I've got it sussed now.  Let me know if you need any more help...
