X121e post-hibernation USB failure, long shutdown with BSOD DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE ntoskrnl.exe

2012-02-20, 10:15 AM

Hi. It's a brand new X121e. Half the time when resuming from hibernation the USB devices are not recognized, the device manager freezes on scanning for hardware changes, then on system shutdown or another hibernation attempt ( lasting 10 min give or take) it BSODs

(DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, *** STOP: 0x1000009f (0x0000000000000004, 0x0000000000000258, 0xfffffa80030e6040, 0xfffff800049343d0) *** ntoskrnl.exe - Address 0xfffff80002e954da base at 0xfffff80002e16000 DateStamp 0x4e02aaa3).

Last time it even caused corruption to my work (which was open during the crash) which chkdsk fixed only partially. Also, a few programs reverted to their default settings for whatever reason.

Been playing around with drivers, disallowed turning off USB devices, removed some software, Lenovo power manager, lost count of what I've done thus far and how many days spent researching on forums. Any help, please?

Thanks for help, guys. Solved it by getting my own Win 7 DVD, doing the clean install without tons of Lenovo bloatware. So far so good.

This helped me too

Check if you have TotalMounter software and Apple Itunes (or only GEARAspiWDM.sys driver on your system)

Here is what I discovered:

I have been receiving BSOD on Windows 7 x64 SP1 since I installed TotalMounter. It appears that it's incompatible with Itunes ASPI layer GEARAspiWDM.sys.

The problem occurs after an successful Hybernate, Wakeup and a shutdown attempt. Shutdown takes about 10 minutes and the BSOD as below.
The BSOD did not specify the driver so I had to disable non Microsoft drivers one by one.
Since I removed Totalmounter 1.5 or GEARAspiWDM.sys the problem disappeared. I have tested GEARAspiWDM.sys with DaemonTools (other ISO image mounter) and it can be used without problem.

It seems that GEARAspiWDM.sys ASPI filter is somehow incompatible with TotalMounter.
I hope my post helps people having the same problem.

On Sat 02/02/2013 21:01:52 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\020213-12012-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x81E7A)
Bugcheck code: 0x1000009F (0x4, 0x258, 0xFFFFFA8007354040, 0xFFFFF80000B9C3D0)
Error: CUSTOM_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.
