Re:X1C 6th Gen - Lenovo revoking support for 5120x1440 ultra-wide

2020-07-27, 13:00 PM

I have a t490s with Intel uhd 620.  Intel custom resolution has worked for me for a Dell u4919dw.

Here is the link:  https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005540/graphics.html

By following the steps, I was able to setup 5120x1440 resolution and this resolution then appeared in Windows settings display.  So, by selecting it I was able to have 5120x1440.

I just got it working so not sure about long term stability yet.  Good luck.

Re:X1C 6th Gen - Lenovo revoking support for 5120x1440 ultra-wide

Stitching together tidbits from this and other similar posts I got my (work provided) Lenovo T490s to display at 5120x1440 60Hz on my Samsung CRG9.

Here's what I did:

  • Used a Lenovo docking station
  • DP cable port 1
  • Downloaded and installed Intel's UHD 620 driver from April 2020
  • Reboot
  • Open Intel Graphics Control Panel and setup a Custom Resolution 5120x1440 60Hz w/ CVT timing standard
    • Will still default to 3840x1080 and 5120 won't be a dropdown option yet, so
  • Reboot
  • Open Intel Graphics Control Panel and now 5120x1440 60Hz appears on the dropdown and works perfectly
  • Finally, TURN OFF LENOVO AUTO UPDATES

We'll see how long this works, but so far so good with no BIOS update or new mobo required as suggested on some previous posts.

Side Note: for those without a dock, same method will get you 5120x1440 30Hz via HDMI direct out from the laptop.  Just be sure your Intel custom res is at 30Hz.  30Hz is choppy, won't play video properly, and basically just pretty much sucks, but it's better than running below native res.  Per the manual T490s HDMI only supports 4k @ 30Hz, so it's a flat out HW limitation of the onboard Intel 620 GPU.

Hope this helps someone else...

Re:X1C 6th Gen - Lenovo revoking support for 5120x1440 ultra-wide

Hi,

my maschine: X1 Yoga 1st Gen (Type 20FQ, 20FR) Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 20FR

Intel HD Graphics 520

I just bought an ultra wide monitor with a recommended resolution of 5120 x 1440. I can`t select this resolution. It ends with 3840x1080.

The higher resolution 5210x1440 is supported by the intel graphics driver with driver version 26.20.100.7985 or higher.

The OS (Windows 10) doesn`t update further than 26.20.100.7812.

Lenovo support page is on Intel Graphics Driver (Version 1709 or later) 26.20.100.6913 by 01 Mar 2020.

The OS doesn`t let me install the latest driver from the intel page, already at Version: 27.20.100.8587, because an OEM driver is installled and I need to update from the manufacturer page.

This is really annoying because I can`t enjoy my new screen.

How can I solve this? Will there be any driver update soon by Lenovo or do you not support a three year old machine anymore?

How are you connecting your new display? Thunderbolt? HDMI? USB-C?

Thank you for highlighting that @SebastianBerlin .You might need to uninstall the Lenovo OEM graphics driver before updating to the Intel generic driver version 26.20.100.7985 or greater.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Re:X1C 6th Gen - Lenovo revoking support for 5120x1440 ultra-wide

I've been trying to fix this issue for week since purchasing my 49" AOG monitor.

Here's what I have:

Gen3 X1 Yoga

i7 1.9Ghz processor

currently running BIOS N25ET38W 1.24

Graphics driver version: 26.20.100.6709

I'm connected to the monitor using USB-C 3.2 cable

I've tried the changes mentioned in this thread but have been unsuccessful in getting the 5120 resolution.

Any help would be awesome!

this registry patch might help users who don't want to upgrade to Intel's latest drivers  https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=0vkr4

The zip file contains  just one registry file with this content:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000]

"Enable5kModeSupport"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001]

"Enable5kModeSupport"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0002]

"Enable5kModeSupport"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0003]

"Enable5kModeSupport"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0004]

"Enable5kModeSupport"=dword:00000001

I guess on most systems  the folders 0002 - 0004  don't exist so the additional key  might not be needed.

Thanks for merging my thread into this one.

The solution on page 2 (just the part of updating the basic windows adapter, bios part not necessary) worked for me.

Signed up on the forums just to post on this thread.  Bought a 49inch gaming monitor but wanted to use my work laptop with it too.  The solution on page 2 worked.  Shame on Lenovo.
