X1C 6th gen keyboard swap

2021-05-10, 13:03 PM

Is this something a confident nerd can do on his own?
I've taken a few laptops and computers apart before without damaging any.

Hi Lorenzo, Time travel! I think you skipped back a couple of generations. This would be the right hardware maintenance manual:

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x1_carbon_6thgen_hmm_en.pdf

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Hello Hartmannsson,

Greetings

If you'll use a compatible keyboard, then there's nothing to worry about.
You may refer to this hardware maintenance manual for guidance
https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x1_carbon3_hmm_en_sp40g55065.pdf

Hope this helps

Regards,
Lorenzo_Lenovo

Thank you guys.  I was 80% through removing the nine million screws underneath the keyboard itself when I suddenly had a duh moment.  Put it all back together and just swapped the caps!  It registers as a non UK keyboard still but that’s of course configurable at software/OS level.

Working on the X1C ultrabooks is quite different from the mighty P5x and P7x.
