X1C WWAN not supported in Canada anymore?

As I get ready to pull the trigger on an X1C, I find that the WWAN is no longer included and isn't available as an option in the Canadian store.

It used to be, what happened?

Also, I'm still waiting for an i7 w/8GB RAM option which also isn't surfacing.

Re: X1C WWAN not supported in Canada anymore?

s0dhi,

X1C supports mini PCI-e Half (!) Size wwan card. Presently it's Ericsson H5321gw card only (from officially supported wireless cards list). It operates in GPRS/WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ networks so the answer of your question depends of your carrier network type - is it UMTS or CDMA/EV-DO.

Or you can find another wwan card in half size formfactor with CDMA/EV-DO network support but have to think about wireless card compatibility list.

Thanks for the reply.  I understand the above to be true.  I am comfortable opening a machine up and adding a card - I did this with my T410s.  I can always source a card independently, but my concern is the option has been removed and it is now listed as "No Mobile Broadband Support".

Does this mean that other items like the SIM holder and antennae will not be there, making adding the card difficult?

Re: X1C WWAN not supported in Canada anymore?

s0dhi,

I can't answer you clearly as X1C parts list consists 4 antennas kits (FRU/description):
04W3908 / Antenna KIT
04Y1462 / Antenna WLAN Yageo
04Y1463 / Antenna wWLANnWWAN WNC
04Y1464 / Antenna wWLANnWWAN Yageo

Probably the only one consists wwan antennas. In this case the part of X1C models might not be wwan ready.

Re: X1C WWAN not supported in Canada anymore?

Thanks, X220forMe.

I think the there are FRUs two suppliers with two configurations each.

  • WNC - WLAN only
  • WNC - WLAN & WWAN
  • Yageo - WLAN only
  • Yageo - WLAN & WWAN

I suspect that the two manufacturers WNC and Yageo would be interchangeable.

It is really going to suck, if I have to WWAN enable the X1 Carbon on my own when I order.
