X1Y2 - where did dolby go?

2017-12-02, 22:56 PM

Previously, audio could be enhanced with Dolby through Lenovo Companion, and there were different presets for music, movies, game, and voice. A round of recent Lenovo updates, after I installed the fall creators update, caused it to dissapear. I know some people on Reddit have had this same issue. Is there a way to get it back?

For Windows 10 I presume?
I witnessed the same issue after Windows applied an update and replaced the audio driver for a Microsoft variant.
Made similar enquiries and the advice was to go

1) launch "Device manager"

2) under "sound, video and game controllers" uninstall the Conexant SmartAudio HD device, ensuring I also check the 'delete the driver' option.

3) Relaunch Lenovo Companion and run a System Update.

It should display the option to install the "Conexant Audio Driver - 10 [64] - V.8.66.62.50" ~ 85.3MB.

4) Let it do it's thing as it takes a while and can make you think it has hung. Takes about 5-10 minutes.
Reboot and voila, welcome back Dolby after a few moments (check your start menu under "D" you should have an Dolby folder with the Dolby Audio app within it (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Dolby).

There's also the SmartAudio app lurking within:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Conexant\SAII

Within Lenovo Companion, ensure sure the "application-based settings" option isn't checked to allow you manual control of the Dolby settings.
