X200 74542AGU Freezing

2008-11-14, 17:40 PM

We purchased two ThinkPad X200 74542GU notebooks this week.  Both are running Windows XP Pro SP3 and have all the latest Microsoft and Lenovo updates installed (as of 11/12/2008).

Both are freezing regularly after periods of inactivity.  They freeze so hard that the wallpaper doesn't even display, just the background color.  The only option once they freeze is to perform a power cycle.

We have tried every conceivable power configuration, but nothign seems to help.

These are our first two Lenovo products and probably our last unless we can get this resovled ASAP.

We have two very unhappy end users, one of whom is a VP and can make my life miserable.

Welcome to the forum joshthegeek,

Are you able to determine after what exact period of inactivity the notebooks freeze? Also, taking a look at the Event viewer (Start --> Run --> type 'eventvwr.msc') might be useful to find potential system errors.

Thank you

Hello,

Not sure if you have the finger print reader but I was having this issue also till I put on the new fingerprint reader software that they just released... also lenovo system update will not pick this up as a needed upgrade.

The fingerprint reader often cause problems, regardless of brand... I've had system error in different types of machines.

So, this is worth looking into.

I have ordered a X200 WITHOUT the fingerprint reader, not only because I don't find it useful, but because of the chance of seeing my system crash.

That's quite a broad statement!

Been using fingerprint readers on ThinkPads for several years now... several times daily... no problems.

I don't see a lot of people reporting fingerprint reader problems in the Lenovo forums (mainly setup and use questions).

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!
