X200: Battery life 4-cell?

2008-09-26, 9:22 AM

Hi,

I am considering getting an X200 and have a question:

All reviews I find state the battery life with a 9 cell battery - now, I would like to save the weight, and use a 4 cell (or a 6 cell - provided it als stays flush - ?!?) - anyone have any specs on the battery life with a 4 cell?

Thank you :-)

I get about 2:30 with the 4 cell battery.

The 6 cell battery seems much better with about 4:00... 4:30.

( I do not tune my X200 too much for battery life so maybe others have better results...)

Officially, this is what LENOVO advertise in their documentation:

Battery Life (XP / Vista)

4-cell battery life up to 3.3 hr/3.1 hr

6-cell battery life up to 6.5 hr/6.2 hr

9-cell battery life up to 9.8 hr/9.4 hr

Hi,

thank you! - I have another question, since you have the 6 cell battery :-) I know that the 4 cell sits flush with the back of the X200, and that the 9 cell protrudes from the back - BUt - what about the 6 cell?? - I cannot seem to find any info on that.

 Thank you in advance,

I have a 6 cell battery with X200 (42T4536).

The good news is that it stays flush with the back.

The bad news is that it at most gets 4:30h, not the 6-6:30h as advertized.

I originally thought that they incorrectly shipped a 4-cell to me (since it is flush and 4hours, and on the invoice the part# is 44C5196).

Then I see http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70298.html

it does not protude from the back, but it is thicker... about 8mm thicker so the baxk of the X200 is on the 2 feet from the 6 cell battery, not on its 2 original feet...

take a look at this (bad) picture (sorry, I have only a cell phone with me today):

The battery life times are just complete FANTASY.

My X200 is right out of the box and I have the 9-cell battery. When I unplugged the wall power it says 5.4 hours of battery life which is about 60% of the advertised number. And that is with NOTHING running and the CPU at 3% busy.

Why can Lenovo not give you realistic battery life times?

Maybe mine is related to the "Your battery is not a Genuine Lenovo Battery" message but it the one Lenovo sent with the NEW system. So I believe there is very limited believability in anything that Lenovo publishes about performance or parts or anything. The machine is recommended by users but the memory is not as advertised (CAS 7 rather than CAS 5 which is 40% slower) and the hard drive is the slower SATA model (1.5Gb/sec rather than 3.0 Gb/sec).

Just beware what you read. The only way to know is if someone with a 4-cell battery writes in.

I actually have to disagree with fschuff...

I recently received my x200s with a 9 cell and have been getting 12+ hours of use.

I "calibrated" the battery upon receiving it and have set my battery threshholds to don't charge until 40% and stop at 95%. I use the Energy Star battery configuration and keep my screen around 1/2 brightness. After callibrating the battery, I used the computer on and off for over 3 days before I plugge din the charger.

Since then, I consistently use the computer for ~7 hours of computing time before I even think about charging it. Power Manager consistenly says I have over 5 hours of battery life at or around 40% left (the frist 7 hours I have been keeping track of how long I've had it on and it's right in line with the manager).

Your machine may vary, however mine is spot on.

Hey, I just wanted to know what you mean by "calibrated" because I have an 4 cell battery and trying to get as much as battery life from it but having little success. Its also brand new and I just get about 3 hours, which is not that much for a 4 cell.
