X200 Freezing

2009-05-30, 20:35 PM

Hi

My X200 freezes. A lot. I can move the cursor but nothing else happens, even in response to Ctrl-Alt-Del. The only solution is to power off. Takes and age to restart. I have put more ram in and done a clean install just 2 days ago.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Mark

Freezing can be from a lot of reasons. If you did a clean install from an origianl windows XP cd, the only other reasons for this is faulty hardware. it can be a faulty memory module or a heat problem. do you sense your computer generate more heat? the memory modules can be checked with a program called memtest.

I will check the memory with memtest. I do wonder about heat. It seems to fail particularly when plugged into the docking station and is particularly common when I leave it on the higher performance settings. How do I cure this?

Try to rule things out. maybe it's the docking station? try to leave the computer on minimal power consumtion running on battery. after that try to do the same when docked in, and then on the maximum power settings. it's best to reproduce the error.

Hi

they replaced my motherboard this morning. No crashes since. I dug out a lot of errors on the TPM which corresponded with the freezes, but quite by accident (an error message popped up in the taskbar), and only on the evening after they said they would replace the motherboard. Is this possible? No crashes for last 10 hours. A record!

Thanks for the suggestions.
