X200 Port Replicator Options

2008-08-07, 17:13 PM

The X200 configuration only has the USB port replicator listed as a option.  Anyone know if the ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock also works with the X200?  A bunch of my users have dual external monitors setup for work in the office, and I need something that will allow for this type of usage.

Also anyone know how the 3 batteries fit into the X200?  I've heard that for widescreen models the 4 cell battery stay flush with the back of the laptop, but with the standard screen models the 4 and 6 cell batteries stay flush.  Can anyone confirm?

korhonent, welcome to the forum,

the advanced Mini-Dock will not be able to used with the X200, however there is an Ultrabase Dock which can be used.

See Page 4 on the Data Sheet;

Doh, I actually knew that.  Got the replicator options for the X line and the T line mixed up.  Any Idea if it is possible to plug a monitor into the VGA port on the Ultrabase Dock, and plug a 2nd monitor into the VGA port on the actual laptop?  What about the Enhanced USB Port Replicator?  Would the VGA out on the laptop and the VGA out on the USB Port Rep both work at the same time?

Also, will additional warranty options be added to the configuration for the machine?  The Datasheet mentions 1 or 3 yr warranty support however the config only has the 1 year option available.

I'm tired of waiting for Dell to actually move past 533 and 800 mhz FSB laptops and for this reason I love the T line of machines.  However I want to be able to offer a 'ultra light' option if users are concerned about weight, and the X200 is really looking like it would fit the bill nicely.

On current models the VGA on the TP is disabled when docked, I imagine it will be the same story with the X200.

As to using the USB Port-Rep for a second screen, I really do not know if that will work - never tried it. Maybe you could and let us know.:smileywink:

A solution that does work is the Matrox DualHead2Go, if you search the forum you will find it has been recommended in several threads.

What about for an X300, do you know of a dock for that?

There isn't, just the USB option which you mention in your opening post.

Maybe in the future for the X302/3?

I actually didn't post the original message, I was just asking for a customer of mine: Thanks for the help Andy. I hadn't heard of one either, but you never know...

Thanks
