Re: X200 v3.01 firmware bricked laptop?

[ Edited ]

All,

Thank you for your fast reporting of this issue, and the additional details posted in response to our querry.  We were able to successfully reproduce these symptoms based on the additional information posted.

While we believe these symptoms would only be seen by a subset of our customers who have VT enabled, this version of the BIOS update will be removed from the web and replaced by an updated version.

I'll share additional updates as available.

UPDATE 5/26 - Version 3.02 is on the web and resolves this symptom.

Best regards,

Mark

Re: X200 v3.01 firmware bricked laptop?

I presume the X200 Tablet model will also receive this update?

My 7449-FXG is also affected by this bug.

It seems like the website still has 3.01 on there... when will it be removed?

Re: X200 v3.01 firmware bricked laptop?

This problem also exists with the X200 Tablet and the 3.00 Firmware.  I updated by new X200 tablet from 2.07 to 3.00 only to have it unusable.  I disabled the Intel VT-d feature and now it works.  I want to use the Intel VT-d feature though.  How can I get back to 2.07 since Lenovo does not have the 2.07 version on the website?

Thanks,

Rich

Hi RichCrane!

Yes this was discussed in the X200 Tablet topic.

Is there any particular reason why version 2.06 won't work for you in the interim? It appears that version 2.07 was not released to the web.

Re: X200 v3.01 firmware bricked laptop?

Rich,

As I understand it, we should have a new version of the BIOS for these systems available in about a week that should resolve this issue.   Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

Best regards,

Mark

Re: X200 v3.01 firmware bricked laptop?

[ Edited ]

This has been a really horrible experience for me.  I updated my BIOS to 3.01 on Tuesday the 19th and of course it bricked my laptop!  I am SO FURIOUS about it!  Here are my problems with this!

1) First of all why on earth wasn't FW 3.01 removed from the website earlier since Mark_Lenovo seemed to know about the problem???

2) Why wasn't the Lenovo Tech support informed about this?  I called them on May the 19th (right after my laptop was bricked) and no one knew anything about FW 3.01 being faulty.  As a result they asked me to send the X200 to the depot (which I did the morning of the 20th) where they REPLACED the whole motherboard!!!  Now my laptop has a new ethernet mac address (which BTW they didn't update on the bottom sticker of the laptop) which has to be re-registered with my businesses.

3) To top all the above, the top case of my X200 was scratched during the service!

All that, meaning 1 week of downtime, scratches, more pain re-registering MAC addresses for a faulty FW that wasn't handled properly at all.  I am VERY VERY dissapointed with how Lenovo handled the issue on all possible levels!  Both in terms of the tech support I received as well as their testing process before releasing FW to the public.

I think I am done with Lenovo as a serious business machine ...
