I purchases a new WD 2 tb portable external usb disk for backup with Rescue and Recovery. The initial backup stops repeatedly with this message: "Rescue and Recovery is unable to back up the file " because the file is corrupted or being used by another application." Note that it doesn't give me the name of the file, just the one double-quote sign. If I click "Retry," the backup proceeds. It does this about every ten minutes. I start R&R immediately after a reboot; without starting any other application. I use Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus. I noted that some with a similar R&R problem found turning off Norton to fix the problem. It's not clear how to turn off Security Essentials.
The fact that "Retry" always works causes me to think there really are no problems with the files, but the constant stopping with the need for manual intervention is making backing up almost impossible.
