X220 BIOS hard to access

I got my X220 yesterday, so far I really like it, but it's very difficult to get access to the BIOS or the startup device select screen.  If I press the ThinkVantage button at the POST screen usually either nothing happens or the recovery partition boots.  Pressing F1 for BIOS or F12 for startup device seems to work if I get the timing just right, but I frequently have to try 10 times (rebooting the machine) before I can get in.  I've seen this problem on firmware 1.16 and 1.17.  What do I need to do here?  I've seen someone on another forum having the same issue, is there a fix?

Re: X220 BIOS hard to access

I agree that there is opportunity to improve startup key recognition, but what I do I press the button repeatedly until the POST screen acknowledges it... e.g. twice a second or something like that.  It works for me, because pressing F1/F12 just a single time is definitely not enough.

OK, that works most of the time.  Would you happen to know if the BIOS team is working on a fix for this issue?

Re: X220 BIOS hard to access

I doubt if you will ever see a "fix" for this. Been the same since the first IBM PC was rolled out. Intel, AMD or any other chip manufacturer would have to modify the original code which is just not going to happen. Learn how to do it right the first time, it is possible!

I neglected to say, remove the power cord from your laptop should make it easier to get into bios

Re: X220 BIOS hard to access

Hello,

If you are running Windows try, try running a "shutdown /fw /r /t 10" from an elevated Command Prompt and see if causes the computer to restart in 10 seconds and go directly into the BIOS settings.
