Well, hello everyone lol.

I was hoping that I was just crazy with having 3 white spots on my screen but figured I would take a trip over to the forum and see if anyone else had mentioned it.  Oh look, a 3 page thread already on the topic haha.  I as well have 3 white spots on my IPS.  I try to ignore them although they are visible on darker pages.  I've had my x220 for maybe 6 months now.

Sounds like the consesus here is that Lenovo is not replacing the X220 IPS displays under warranty?

Is that means Lenovo acknowledged "bright spot" problems with IPS screens?

Maybe they are the white ghost that make the ghosting effect :D I have 4 spots like that so far.

Maybe Lenovo can finally issue a statement, why this white dot problem happens only with premium (IPS) screen owners so far? As far as i remember, regular TFT screen X220-s doesn't develop this issue or at least regular X220 owners are quiet about this. Mechanically those laptops are almost same. I can't believe that all IPS screen owners handled X220 roughly as "white dots come from unacceptable pressure" and regular screen owners at same time not.
Somebody from Lenovo, please explain. X series not meant as cheap laptop, so we deserve at least an answer.

X220, IPS, i7 , 4GB, 160GB SSD, 3G WWAN, built dec 2012.

I have no less than 7 bright spots on my screen. Only 3 are obvious on a grey background. Apparently Lenovo technician's only test on blue, black, and grey backgrounds which minimizes the effect of the bright spots. They are also trying to deny the claim because "pressure damage" isn't covered. The pressure spots don't line up with keys, some  correspond to the palm rest area.

I agree. It is very very suspicious that only the IPS screens are reported to have the bright spots. If someone can point out a forum post where a normal x220 TFT screen has the bright spot issue I'd like to see it.

Lenovo, how is it that only IPS screens seem to have these problems?

I also have these bright spots on my IPS Display. 6 so far (increasing number) and one is really annoying because it is very big and visible especially while browsing.

I doubt that a lot of pressure is needed in order to get this effect. 3 of those spots appeared after the first three weeks of usage although i never carried the laptop out of the house in that time. In fact I was very careful with it since it is my first own laptop and it was very expensive.

My conclusion is that Lenovo just does not want to spend the resources, which is a shame because of how expensive this machine is. My impression in general is that the build quality is not as great as people would think it is when they hear the brand "ThinkPad" because this is not the only issue people are reporting regularly.

I really like my X220, but some aspects such as these bright spots, the power supply being too weak or the lid leaving imprints on the chassis are really disappointing. I think Lenovo does not address these issues appropriately because this is meant to be a high-end business notebook.

I also have spots, two near the bottom that correspond with the palm rest as others have mentioned, and a cluster of them near the mid-right of the screen. I've babied this notebook and love everything about it except these spots, particularly since I use the machine for photo-editing. Absolutely ridiculous that it would not be covered under warranty. I hope Lenovo speaks up or I will soon make it a mission to spread the word further than a community forum.
