Hello everyone, this is my first message here, and by the way, I'd like to apologize for my poor english ;]
Yesterday I have noticed a problem with the display in my X220 (type 4290-W1B). There is a small, white spot (about 1 mm diameter), clearly visible on the screen. It doesn't look like a normal bad pixel, but like a problem with the background light, or something. It is not visible when black color is displayed. The laptop was bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK until yesterday.
I have attached some pictures of this dot, but it is difficult to capture it with the camera (it is much more visible in real). I have marked the spot (it is in the middle of the circle). The pics are in high resolution so you can zoom in.
What should I do now? I have heard , that the Lenovo bad pixel policy is 3 bad pixel per display.. Maybe some of you have noticed such problem already?
Thanks a lot.

Believe I have the same thing. Don't know exactly for how long now, but I have been noticing them for a while now. Not visible on just black background, but on pretty much anything else. Most visible on white backgrounds. It appears as if these white spots are behind the pixel layer if that makes any sense. And there is more than one (I count three) of these areas on my screen and they all have a different shape and intesity.
Best regards,
Gundy

Thanks for reply. I think we have exactly the same issue. Do you also have an IPS display? Have you tried to contact the Lenovo support to fix it?

Yes, it's an IPS.
No, haven't been in contact with Lenovo support. Thing is I'd need a long vacation to be able to let go of my laptop.

I've noticed something similar on my screen - a small brighter patch. I was going to call support this week.

I had the same problem. I bought the X220 last June and the bright spot appeared at the beginning of August.
I had also ghosting issue with the IPS panel so I called Lenovo tech services (since I have the on-site service) and they came and change the screen.
If you call them and they come to fix the screen, make sure they replace it with a screen that was build after 11/08/12. It seems that it is after this date that they found a solution to the Ghosting issues. Unfortunately for me, they changed my screen last week but they changed it for something that was build on 11/07/24... I still have the ghosting problem... I just don't have time right now to call tech services (again) so that they change my screen for the 3rd time since june!!!

I've had the same problem for about a week now, and I can confirm it does appear to originate from a separate layer, not the pixel matrix itsself. Unsure how to proceed, as it is quite noticible - first problem I've ever had with a Thinkpad. Ever.

So it seems to be a quite popular X220 IPS failure :/ Thanks guys for your replies. I think I'll give my x220 to the lenovo support center and I hope they'll fix it. Maybe it is not a big problem, but this spot annoys me all the time. ![]()

Well, let us know how it goes and what exactly they end up replacing.
