Amphibulus,

Can you explain a bit more?  Exactly what is the issue?

The photo a the begining of this thread is what looks like the front bezel separating from the rest of the LCD assembly in places - agree that absent abuse (catching it on something, dropping, etc) that it shouldn't do this.

It is not clear to me that you mean you have exactly the same problem.

All,

I've been clicking around through a number of these  X220 threads and I appreciate that people feel frustrated that they have some damaged plastics, and upon seeing other customers who have some issue with plastics - a cracked palmrest, a separating bezel, etc that it degrades the overall perception of qualtiy / reliability of the system.

It is a bit challenging for us when unrelated (other than thand they are all plastic parts) are grouped together this way.  It is more indicative that there could be a problem (and gives us opportunity to investigate) when all the reported issues are grouped and related to the same part and the same manner of failure.

For example, if a palmrest always cracks in the same place, or the bezel always comes loose in the same place - it is more likely that something common is happening than just a bunch of random stuff which can't be conclusively linked to either accidental / handling damage that occured during use, or isolated parts that were stressed during assembly and subsequently crack, or were just a bad piece of plastic.  Seeing the pattern allows us to investigate and take appropriate action to resolve.

Thanks!

Mark

Mark,

for example this issue is clearly separated http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-display-frame-bends-in-sun-light/m-p/739017

This is what I'm talking about:

screen crack.jpg

screen crack 2.jpg

And here the "white dot" in the screen:

Here the crack in the frame.

crack frame.jpg

Build date 07/11... You really think it's going to last?

Maybe it's me that is hard with my laptop, but I had a T43 and a X300 without issue and I was moving them around a lot more then this one. And as always, it's in a protective case when I move it....

"Mark_Lenovo wrote: It is more indicative that there could be a problem" Yeah, I agree, there could be, except if it's the new standard for Lenovo.

Re: X220 Lid breaking

I have the exact same problem on the same side of my thinkpad. When the "tech" came to replace it, they sent only the lid.

After the replacement was done, I found significant backlight bleed on the top of the screen, which was due to the pressure but the tech did not want to address this and told me to call into support to create another case. He also managed to stick the two screw stickers together and replaced them with ones which were too large for the laptop.

When I took apart the screen to find out the cause of the new backlight bleeding, I found that my antennas had not been seated properly in their slots and one was bulging out, how he managed to close the bezel is a wonder to me and the level of "technical expertise" was non existent. He also ripped one of the pieces of copper tape (which is soldered to the antenna) 4/5 but it still hung on by a little bit. The copper tape which connects the antennas to the inside of the lid does not stick twice (or he was incompetent of removing it).

His solution to the antennas? Cover them with electrical tape that formed a tarp over the edge of the internal lid casing so that my monitor would not sit flat and created pressure on the back.

After I reseated my antennas and put the screen back in the backlight issue on the top was gone but my wireless range has significantly decreased after the lenovo "repair".

I'm curious to hear what Lenovo has to say about this?

Mark, if you look at the location of the failure in the lid, notice this is the side that does not bear weight when the lid is opened every time and suggests to me that this is a design flaw, not user error.

Amphibulus,

Wow!  Ok, that is not at all what I thought I was seeing - thanks for clarifying.  I've not seen this before - really odd that it should have sheared across as it did.

I'd like us to take a look at this and see how we can help.  Can you PM me your contact information - name, address, phone and the MT / Serial of the unit.  Will see what we can do.  Interesting that the lid and the palmrest have damage.

Zerius,

Sorry that you experienced workmanship that was sub-standard during the onsite repair.   Could you also send me a PM with your details - name, address, phone, and the system MT / Serial and if you have it, the case number from the onsite repair.  I'd like to help you get this sorted out and to look into onsite event.

Thank you both.

Puppy,

Thanks for the clarification too!

Mark

Hi Mark,

I have not received any PM's from you. I have another issue with the support service, and I wish to speak with management about this.
