X220 WatchGuard VPN+Access Connections 5.93 = no joy

2012-07-24, 9:16 AM

I am eagerly seeking a solution to this problem:

System: X220, Win7 64bit, internal Gobi WWAN, Verizon service provider, company-provided WatchGuard VPN

Issue: WatchGuard VPN (WG) works fine on WiFi and when I access WWAN via Verizon's VZAM. This weekend, my VZAM seemingly got corrupted (unable to detect the card even though Windows can see it and query it; plus it connects perfectly using Access Connections (A-C)), uninstall and fresh install of VZAM did not change this. The only reason I was using VZAM was because WG would connect with WiFi and a VZAM WWAN connection but NOT with an A-C WWAN connection. In A-C, I have tried to configure the VPN settings (Additional Settings, Enable VPN Connection.... and that part seems to work as WG launches after A-C connects to the WWAN), and WG is able to "connect" (all green), but no data packets are received and I cannot access any network resources.

Any and all help gratefully received. Thank you.

Perhaps you could have another try at describing your issue(s)?  It is not at all clear what the problem is, from the description above.

Cheers,

Bill - thank you for seeking clarification. Put simply, my VPN works on all of my connections except when I use the Verizon Mobile Broadband WWAN profile in Access Connections. It even works with that same "connection" to the internet when it is opened by the Verizon Access Manager utility. So my assumption is that there is some conflict in Access Connections. Either there is some fix/workaround, or I just need to give up.

Does that help?

Try this.

Run services.msc (or Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services)

Find the Cisco EnergyWise service, right click it and choose Stop.

Then right click again and choose Properties and change the startup type to Disabled. Click Ok then reboot.

Give it a try then and see if it helps.

Thank you for this suggestion. When I went in to that Cisco service, it was already 'stopped', but I did disable it, too. Restarted, and still the same outcome. Drat!

Any and all other suggestions are deeply welcomed!

Watchguard has a support forum... have you checked there for any mention of similar problems?

Cheers,

I have not been able to make access connections 5.95 work.  It fails to find the adapter card after resuming from sleep mode.  Last usable version was 5.92...
