Does anyone know if there is a BIOS update avaiable to improve the X220 with Windows 10? My latest Windows 10 update stopped the recognition of the USB 3.0 ports. Reinstalling the Windows 7 drivers for the USB 3.0 (Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver) did not help; reinstalling the chipset drivers also did not help. Very best to all.

Hi! The Thinkpad x220 is not compatible with Windows 10. There are no drivers for windows 10 for this model. It can only upgrade up to Windows 8.1. Check this link: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-...).

Jwes_Lenovo, my system upgraded to Windows 10 and ran fine for years; it was only the latest update - two weeks ago - that caused the driver issue. Additionally, Windows itself forced the Windows 10 update.

Thanks, Blue Screen, for the screenshot: that is the driver I used to see, but which no longer works after the latest Windows 10 update. Are you running Windows 10?

Windows has no way of detecting if you have drivers for Windows 10. We don't recommend you to stick with Windows 10 because you will be experiencing issues sooner or later. We highly suggest you to go back to Windows 8.1.

Again, there has been no issue w Windows 10 for years. A better reply would be useful - even a dialogue from Lenovo w Renesas Electronics requesting a simple updated USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver.

Here are the list of Windows 10 support Lenovo Devices,
Other than those listed is not guaranteed to work with Windows 10. In some instances, user may be able to install and use it fine, but expect that there are some issues that might occur, especially when it comes to the driver compatibility. Only drivers for version below Windows 10 are posted in the supported website, since they are the one that are compatible with the laptop.

It is true that Windows 10 is not officially supported on the X220, but the user community has kept this much-loved model going so far (search and you will find other threads on various W10/X220 challenges). So thank you for posting your question, which is more likely to be answered by a fellow enthusiast ... calling...

My ThinkPad X220 is 1,200 miles away right now, so I cannot test this myself, but I always wiped the internal drive and then did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro (x64) to it and that seemed to work for me. The USB 3.0 port and WLAN worked fine for me each time I did that. Needless to say, it's not a supported configuration, but that just means Lenovo doesn't officially provide any assistance with Windows 10 issues on the platform. I would be surprised if there were any of these eight-year-old machines still out there under any kind of support contract.
