X220 and classic keyboard.

2011-11-11, 21:46 PM

Hi.

Just bought X220 and feel very unhappy with new keyboard layout.

With 10 years of using thinkpads my fingers remember the hotkeys locations like Ctrl-Ins and Alf-F4 and now I unexpectedly get  Ctrl-Del and Alt-F3 pressing to those regions.

So, my question is: is it possible to buy a classic thinkpad keyboard and install it into X220 ?

If yes, which one should I buy ?

Can X200's or X301's keyboard be installed into X220 ?

No. I don't think they're compatible electrically.

It took me some time to relearn the new layout too. I don't like it because it solves issues I didn't have before and adds new ones, but I'm adapting.

Electrically they suppose to be PS/2, aren't they?

Relearning seems to be the simplest option, but... I still have old thinkpad and also usb thinkpad keyboard for desktop computer. I expect that the relearning would make my work much slower on both old and new style keyboards.

Probably, although the new keyboard has lights on it, so I assume there to be a different configuration. Plus the TrackPoint buttons are differently sized, and the drain holes are in different locations.
