Re: X220 CPU throttling problem

2011-09-08, 9:02 AM

No i think it has already been said that in load, the power requirement can be higher than 65.

Thus a more powerfull 95W PSU  (or pluging your battery) was required.

The laptop is shipped with a 65W PSU for mobility price reason.

sadly, it does not seem to resolve the throttling issue for me neither when I ran WEI, Intel turbo boost monitor shows 800MHz.

Is there any manual config step we need to do? or I have to insert the battery pack?

I have try to insert the battert back to the computer.

The freq. become normal and the throtting fix.

But the important point is that Using AC instead of DC.

Using AC the throtting still happen, actually, when the problem can be fixed.

or will lenovo allow the user of X220 to have 90W power by exchange their 65 W power to lenovo

Is this the official BIOS release (safe?), or just something for testing?

I don't have an x220 any more - sold it because of the throttling, but I do lurk here to see if a fix has arrived. I think it's brilliant how the throttling fix (unless I'm mistaken??) is labelled as a "New functions or enhancements" in the Bios text, rather than a "Problem fix".

Surely it's time for Lenovo to confess this is/was a problem...(63 pages in a forum prima facie suggests so)!

The version released yesterday is the version I was expecting later this month as I said yesterday. I didn't realize, but the support team expedited it through. The internal testing shows good improvement on throttling with benchmarks and lab tests.

It seems to me the issue of the 65W Adapter having insufficient capacity for full system performance is different from the extreme CPU throttling issue of this thread and would be more appropriate in a new specific thread (e.g., "65W Adapter won't deliver full system performance").

Excellent, thank you! I'm now able to get full system performance as measured by WEI on the 65W Adapter (with charged battery installed):

Does this also fix the erratic trackpad behavior with the 90W Slim(mer) Travel Adapter?
