Re: X220 CPU throttling problem

Thank You for Ken reply, but the problem seems occuring. Would you mind to investagate the problem and fix it?

Since, it is quite costly to buy a new 90 W PSU

Freedom, you'll have to give an exact setup description and what you are seeing.

What U mean by exact setup description?
My computer config is as follow:

OPERATING SYSTEM:Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit (TC/ENG)
CHIPSET:  Intel® QM67 Express ChipsetMEMORY1 x 4GB DDR3 1333MHz(Max 8GB) / 1 Free Slot|
HARDDISK:  320GB SATA HDD (7200rpm)
DISPLAY: 12.5" HD Anti-Glare / LED Backlight (1366x768)
GRAPHIC CONTROL: Intel® HD Graphics 3000 in processor
OPTICAL DRIVE: Optional USB Optical Drive Purchased Separately

COMMUNICATION:10/100/1000 LAN / Intel WIFI 6205 a/b/g/n / Bluetooth® 3.0
PORTS/MEDIA: 4-in-1 Card Reader (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)/ 3 x USB 2.0 (one powered) / 1 x VGA / 1 x Display Port / Fingerprint reader

All lenovo machines throttle to 800mhz when there is no battery inserted. I believe they've made it pretty clear elsewhere that this is not going to change anytime soon.

edit: and your issue of throttling without the battery inserted is not relevant to the discussion in this thread. it is a separate, known issue. this thread is about using the 65W adapter, battery inserted, and throttling under heavy graphics load which has been rectified by the bios update.

FWIW, I picked up a used 90W Slim Combo Adapter on EBay for only $25.
Third party adapters are even less.

Freedom, as dtp mentioned, if you are AC only (no battery installed), then you'll still see 800MHz. This is something completely different.

I have updated, I used 90W adapter, I have "benders intel driver" and my battery was fully charged while testing.

- WEI  Score kept the same. 4.7 on aero graphics, 6.2 on "games". Rest of it also kept the same.

FPS in games - all the same as before.

CPU-Z still shows 765mhz or smth, and GPU does not raise over 100% while playing games.

I turned Lenovo Turbo Boost + on as well, nothing changed.

Lenovo Tool showed that I actually have BIOS 1.21.

Im quite unhappy now :(

KYL3R, is your battery plugged in? Also, make sure you're on max performance in power manager...

I forgot I had bought Half Life 2 on Steam many years ago, so I installed it for kicks and it runs very well, consistant frame rate with no drops.

BTW for those who may have not seen the thread about a new Intel HD driver from Lenovo, it raises the windows graphic score from 5.9 to 6.3.
