Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Thanks for your reply jli1972. The x220i does not have throttling problems right because it does not have turbo-boost? Is it okay to go for the 65W adapter for the x220i? And is it really necessary to go for the 90W adapter for the x220?

65w should be sufficient for x220i. mixed msg about x220 throttling, most people it's only limited to i7 model.

but as long as you plug in the battery, x220 i7 is running fine with the latest bios.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

I installed BIOS 1.21 and the throttling behaviour is GONE!!   Woo and Hoo.

Thanks Lenovo for the fix.  Long time coming for sure, but I'm happy.

HWInfo64 and OCCT stress test done with:

  • 65W adapter
  • 90W full size adapter
  • DC only

No throttling.  One thing that is different from BIOS 1.16  (if I remember correctly, its been a couple months since I did the stress tests) is that when the power settings are set to "max turbo" then the CPU frequency is locked at 3.2 GHz (full turbo), even when there is no stress test occurring.  The frequency does not fluctuate with load, it is just locked on 3.2 GHz.  Change the setting to "turbo" or "balanced" and the frequency of both cores fluctuates with load, which seems more normal.  Does anyone know of any issues with running on max turbo setting all the time?

Regards

Rob

The basic procedure is to download an exe file and run it. Go to http://support.lenovo.com/ , select your country, and click on Downloads. Go through the sequence and you'll end up at a page of downloads for your machine.
