Re: X220 - fan constantly on / revving up and down

I'm wondering if the fan throttling at idle is really a problem or not. Since the X220 is a small case and tight fit for the hardware, even at idle, heat can build up causing the fan to throttle up than down again. Just a thought

Re: X220 - fan constantly on / revving up and down

The revving probably isn't good for the motor in the fan though. If I had the issue, I'd just slap on a TPFC profile that kept it at fan speed 1 until 55C, then ramp up from there and back down.

A random idea:
The X100e when fed 0 through 7 in TPFC seems to go 01230123. Maybe that's the source of the revving phenomenon?

Yes that is the problem I am and a few others are expriencing. I have a feeling it happens on all X220s but others don't pay enough attention to it to notice.

Go to power manager and switch the fan to "dyanmically reduce fan noise". It will really help until a proper fix comes along

In my Power Manager, I only have an option for "Maximize performance" and "Balance all parameters" under battery.  AC has the option for "Reduce noise dynamically."  How can I apply this to the on battery profile?

Change the plan to optimize by power source. It should appear for battery then

Click on Power Manager (Icon that looks like a battery) in system tray if you have it > Click on Advanced in upper right corner just below red close X button > Click the down arrow and select System Settings > Now you should see three settings. Last one is Optimize fan Control.

If you do not have the Power Manager Icon in the system tray than you can click on START > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tool and you should find the Power Manager in there
