Re: X220 keyboard excessively mushy?

Would you possibly have a parts # for the ALPs switch keyboards? I'm going to start searching e-bay for a replacement, the key's are starting to get progressively mushier again.

45N2071 - ALPS
45N2141 - CHICONY
45N2211 - NMB

Differences are small.

You'll probably get as much variation batch to batch from one manufacturer as between manufacturers.

Some people prefer one brand; other people perfer others.

Here's a pretty good comparison: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=44310&highlight=keyboard

The Chicony and NMB are virtually the same to me. The ALPS stands out for various good and bad reasons.

Those look like keyboards for the previous generation. Nvm lol.

However, that was in 2007 and it's anybody's guess whether some or any of those comparisons are still valid. All of the manufacturers have probably changed something in the materials or components during the past 5 years.

As it stands, my experience with the new ALPS is the same as with the ALPS on my T400. Going to try sourcing a Chicony or NMB, but am rather lazy.

Interesting, my W520 was listed as:

45N2036    FRU US English-KBD CS09 ALPS

Now I'm 140% sure this is an ALPS. Wasn't absolutely sure because I never saw the part number in my case. Felt just like an ALPS though.

That's from your parts list, correct?

Open up your machine and check the number on the part itself.

Only if you damage the machine. Relevant sections of your Lenovo Limited Warranty:

  • failure or damage resulting from misuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operating environment, natural disasters, power surges, or improper maintenance by you;
  • damage caused by a non-authorized service provider;

To avoid damage, follow the procedures in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

I cleaned up more back and forth here.  Stick to the subject, and cut out the personal comments about one another.
