Re: X220 uncontrollably switches to 50Hz refresh rate upon unplug from power source

I had to edit the new drivers again, without editing they caused the 50hz switch to reappear.

I don´t know why everybody is saying the issue has been fixed, because clearly the issue has not been fixed.

Power Manager is set to Maximum performance

Intel graphics manager is set to maximum performance on both battery and plugged modes

even on windoes power sources i manually changed all settings within the profiles to maximum performance

the driver update is also installed

however the problem remains. The only thing that changed now is that

Plugged - 60 hz

Unplugged - switch back to 50hz

Plug again - switches automatically back to 60hz (this is new).

Overall I am quite disappointed with the x220 display. It sucks that I even had to find out about this problem because no display should show vertical lines because of hz rate at 50 hz. What a pity...

pbagin is right, the Lenovo x220 "premium" display sucks.Backlight bleeding is disappointing (but not deal breaker) and totally **bleep**ty refresh rate.

Yes the refresh rate is bad. Yes we can see it with the naked eye.

I can see it when I'm using an application with a grey or grey-green background(like old installers) even when at 60hz.

I've made a video a while ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n40PhfVcTY

Yes, I am aware that the camera capture speed exacerbate the refreshing of the screen. But I can assure you that I see it with my naked eye  on some color. I am also aware that when the backlight is not at 100%, it happens more. (By the way, lenovo default drivers seems to limit the backlight max as reported earlier, so it happens even at "100%")

When I move my cursor on a black or grey background, I can see a lot of ghosting.

The computer is awesome, but lenovo is cutting some corners and I don't like that for a 1.5k$ machine.

I just installed the latest driver via System Update -- is this issue still not fixed? I'm still getting dumped back into 50Hz when I unplug power.

I'd rather not have to manually edit your install files -- can this not be fixed?

Right click on desktop, click graphics properties. Then click advanced if a window pops up. Then go to power, and choose maximum performance.

Problem solved.

I'm afraid not.

I already had maximum performance set to max, for both battery and plugged-in, but it still kept switching back to 50Hz.

But when I performed the silly .inf edit, now it stays at 60Hz when I switch to battery,

Why doesn't Lenovo just edit the inf file themselves and update the install package?

Problem isn't solved, and this should be fixed by now.

You do not need to edit the driver/reinstall it.

Open regedit, search for FeatureTestControl it will have a value of f900 or f800 depending on what driver you are using (lenovo or intel)

The magic to avoid the 50hz fallback is the third number. it should be 4.

So you should replace f900 by f940 or f800 by f840.

The second number seems to control the minimum backlight level.

Some people wanted lenovo's minimal brightness on intel driver. For me it's totaly unusable, I can't see anything.

But if you want, you have to replace your f800 by f900 (or f940 in our case), it will work.

When searching the registry, you will find several keys named FeatureTestControl. Make sure to search for all of them  and change them (some will change themselves automagically).

For me both real keys are in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000?

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000?

Good luck

I think that it will be just greate if Lenovo stuff could provide new driver for the laptop and solve refresh rate issue. ( Original post (intel driver performance improvement))

X220, IPS, Intel Core i7-2640m, 16 gb, Samsung 850 pro 512 Gb, eGPU + GeForce GTX 1080.

Re: X220 uncontrollably switches to 50Hz refresh rate upon unplug from power source

So is this going to get fixed? This isn't a new problem. My two year old T400s with the 8.15.10.2302 drivers from 02/11 suffers from this as well.  This started happening in late '10 and I posted in the NBR forums about it. There hasn't been a new driver from Lenovo since then.  Theres a new version from Intel, and while I didn't test if the refresh rate problem still existed, it killed my brightness OSD so I rolled back.  But this is seriously starting to suck, an epileptic flash in a dim classroom or meeting when I plug in or unplug? Not to mention the 50hz flicker isn't kind to my not-so-great eyes.

On a somewhat related note, is there a way to configure the laptop to NOT change brightness when I plug/unplug power?
