X220 upgrade to 500gb hard drive?

2011-06-14, 20:05 PM

Has anyone upgraded their X220 to a 500gb HD? I see that the current 320gb i have is a "seagate momentus thin" drive and the space for the HD does not fit a standard thickness laptop drive.  Any input on whether there are HD's that would fit and if they would get me to the bigger drive i'd love to have?

I hope that is not the only one available.  It got a very poor review.

How do specs on this new 7200 rpm 500gb drive compare to the factory fitted 320gb drive in terms of power consumption and transfer rates?

http://www.hitachigst.com/internal-drives/mobile/travelstar/travelstar-z7k500

What is the make and model of the 320gb drive that ships with x220?

Are there any other 7200 rpm 500gb options at 7mm now or announced for the near future ?

I have one Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 working in this laptop I am using now. Perfect match. The performance is no good as 7200rpm ones, so consider it first.
But it is not as bad as the storagereview benchmark. I guess they may forgot to align the drive since it is a Advanced Format one. I get a 90MB/s sequential write and 97MB/s sequential read normally.
