X220 wifi connection and driver problem

My X220 can't seem to make a solid connection to wifi. It works for some minutes and then drops right down or to zero, then later returns.

I ran System Update 5 and it recommended updating the WLAN driver to 17.13.11. This I asked it to do, but on rebooting to complete the installation, it didn't seem to have updated. I tried a number of times but System Update couldn't seem to get it to update.

I'm running Win 7 64 bit. Can anyone help?

Re: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

Hi

Uncheck the power saving option for the wifi card in the Device Manager.

Re: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

Thanks. I have unchecked those boxes and will write in if the problem still happens.

BTW, do you have an idea why the WLAN driver refuses to update to the latest version? System Update tries to update it but after reboot it still seems to be the old one. I've tried manual deletion and reinstallation.

Re: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

It's still dropping wifi over and over. I have Net Uptime Monitor installed and it shows repeated drops. Meanwhile my phone connects to the same WAP without a problem.

Re: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

try this out...

best regards..

Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.0 or above is required for System Update to work correctly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 is installed on your system.

Re: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

Thanks. I checked and have NET 4.5 already installed. I ran System Update and it works fine. But the issue still happens!

Wifi just drops right off regularly. Meanwhile I have perfectly wifi 6 inches away with another laptop or my phone. They're all connected to the same WAP.

If I disconnect and reconnect using Windows Wireless Network Connections then it comes back... for a while before dropping again.

The Wireless device installed is Intel Centrino N 6205 and its driver is 15.13.0.2

Can anyone help me?

Re: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

Hi, dev227

1. does the wifi card work after laptop resume?
2. as the card dual band, is behaviour the same in the both band, in every WiFi mode?
3. install drivers only, i.e.w/o PROSet sw. It helps for a lot of users. Of course, remove existing drivers and sw package.
Download drivers here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25223
Get the file with "Ds" in the name
4. check out drivers settings
- Ad Hoc channel - Use 11 (not the middle "6" at least)
- Ad Hoc QoS - WMM enabled. Enable it on your router as well.
- Bluetooth AMP - enabled
- Fat Channel Intolerant - disabled
- Mixed mode - CTS-to-Self enabled
- Preferred band - check it out with router
- Roaming aggressivenes - medium-low
- Transmit power - highest
- Wireless mode - 802.11a/b/g

It seems 6205 doesn't support U-APSD settings, anyway check
that out

ps. Thanks the member Skoop for some advices.
