Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

My Intel 310 MSATA also does NOT work in X220 with I7 CPU.

My experience is very similar to that of vnwhite. Installed Intel 310 MSATA into WWAN slot X220, but no sign of it in BIOS Startup list of drives. Tried it initially with BIOS 1.12 shipped with machine, then flashed BIOS 1.16, but still didn't work. Also removed 320GB HD, booted from recovery DVD in Ultrabase; Win 7 Pro tried to install, asked for several DVD's, then bomed because couldn't find some *.INI file, probably because it hadn't been written to a drive, i.e., Win 7 couldn't find a drive to which it could install.

X220 with i7-2720 CPU

Machine type 4286CTO

BIOS 1.16

came with 4GB RAM, added 4GB; all RAM works fine.

Intel 310 MSATA, SSDMAEMC080G2C1, don't know how to find the firmware version

Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

Maybe it's smarter to also list the shipping date of the thinkpad, since this looks like a recent issue where a certain batch is affected? Or worse, the production proces has changed somewhere and all new x220 machines will be affected...

Don't have a x220 yet myself, will post my info when i get one.

@NSGundy,

Appreciate if you can let where did you get the mSata from and also what are your SATA settings. AHCI and compatibility mode?

@Others,

Appreciate if you can provide the info like the one erik posted.

Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

I thought mini-PCIe and mSATA slots aren't electrically compatible.  Maybe someone at Lenovo can clarify whether there are different variants of the boards for WWAN and mSATA configurations.  This would make the i7/USB 3.0 an independent factor provided that all possible combinations exist.

Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

I just purchased an X220 with an i7 processor, and I was planning on adding an mSATA SSD when I get it.  That won't be for another week or two, but I'm very discouraged to hear that it might not work.  Since I haven't bought the SSD yet, is there a specific model that is known to work better?  Please keep us updated on this issue so I know if I should buy the SSD or not.

Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

Same problem here. mSATA not recognised in BIOS or in Disk Management.

Interestingly seem to get BSOD when select compatability in the SATA controller mode BIOS option.  Reverting to AHCI solves the BSOD issue.

I5-2410M

intel 310 mSATA  INT-SSDMAEMC080G2C1 purchased via reseller in UK last week

BIOS 1.16

Don't know SSD firmware version but I have not updated it.

Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

Looks like I may be having a problem too.  I don't have another computer to test the drive in so I can't say if it's the comp or the drive, but it's not being recognized in the BIOS.

Information to provide:

- 4286 CTO

- i5-2520M

- 1.17/1.08 BIOS

- Doesn't show up in BIOS

- Removed and reinserted device.  Tried switching to UEFI only.  Made sure SATA is set to AHCI.

- Intel 310 80gb

- SSDMAEMC080G2C1

- FW:  02M3

- Purchased separately

Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

Hi JameZ

Bought my mSATA here: ComStern.de
Running AHCI mode, and not the UEFI only option (cannot remember the name for this setting, something that would allow both, but legacy BIOS is preferred). Both these options haven't been changed from when I received the unit.

Best Regards,
Gundy
