if your mSATA SSD still doesn't work after updating to BIOS 1.18 or later, it means one of two things:
1.  the mSATA SSD is defective
2.  it indicates some incompatibilty between the SSD and the ThinkPad for which there is not currently any solution

BIOS 1.18 does allow the Intel 310 80 GB mSata to work in my 4286-CTO X220.

Thank you, Lenovo.

I appreciate your help.

Hi,

I just got today my X220 (4286-CTO) with pre-installed 1.16 BIOS. I'm glad to be one of the lucky guys whose mSATA SSD (Intel 310 80 GB) is working fine without any issues out of the box.

Cheers

Konni

the SSD does work when put in the primary slot (swapping out the Hitachi). Also, the disk seems to be thrash for 5 minutes as the system boots up. Once inside Windows, it behaves ok.
