Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

2011-06-17, 23:36 PM

So much for reliable business laptops... Looks like too many issues are plaguing this machine (fan noise, cpu throttle, msata, general build quality).  I also have 4286CTO and tried out intel 310 G2C1 mSATA ssd, bios did not detect.  Tried bios versions 1.16 and 1.17.  In addition I got noticeable backlight bleed from the ips panel, and the bezel is floppy around the panel.  Battery wiggles quite a bit.  Overall not impressed.  If at least the msata issue is not resolved in the next week, I'm returning this piece of junk.

I would totally appreciate an update, can it really take Lenovo days to figure out what is going on?  It's not like I'm asking for a fix rightaway, but information like "will probably be fixed with a bios update" or the opposite would really help.

Agreed.  I'm in talks with the company I bought the hard drive from trying to figure out if they'll take it back.  However, I'd PREFER if Lenovo would tell us if this is something they can fix.  I'd love to keep the drive, it was one of the deciding factors in my buying the X220.  However, the sooner I know whether this is even fixable, the sooner I can decide what to do.

I hope you understand, I'm not angry I'm just anxious.

Thanks!

Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

I have the same Problem...got my x220 4290W4H i7 last week and the intel 310 msata ssd wasn't recognized by Bios. After trying serveral Bios versions with no results i sent it back to my lenovo-dealer and they told me that they tried 10 different x220 (7 x 4290W4H and 3 x NYG36GE) with different date's of manufacture and they used different intel 310 msata ssd (all with Suffix C1) but nothing works. It seems that this Problem affects not only a few machines. Now im having my x220 back but the msata still doesn't work...great! The option to use an msata alongside a normal HDD was my main reason to buy the x220. I hope Lenovo will offer us a solution imidiately or at least tell us what they are doing...the comunication policy is really anticlimatic.

Her are the spezifications:

4290W4H (x220); SN: xxxxxxx

i7-2620M

Bios: 1.15

intel 310 80GB msata ssd; SN: CVSC11xxxxxxxxxxx

JameZ: I would like to have an update of the current staus concerning our msata - problem!

Thank's

I have to x220 laptops. I tried the same mSATA SSD in both machines and the i5 recognizes the mSATA SSD just fine, but the i7 won't.

i7 machine:

- 4-digit machine type (ie: 4286, 4287, 4289, etc.): 4286

- processor: i7 2620M

- BIOS revision: 1.16

- whether or not you see the drive in BIOS > Startup > Boot (checking both the Enabled and Disabled lists): no

- tests performed (if any)

- mSATA device manufacturer: Intel

- mSATA device model number: SSDMAEMC080G2

- mSATA device firmware revision: 02M3

- whether the mSATA device was purchased through a reseller or came installed in another system: purchased from provantage

i5 machine

- 4-digit machine type (ie: 4286, 4287, 4289, etc.): 4286

- processor: i5 2410M

- BIOS revision: 1.12

- whether or not you see the drive in BIOS > Startup > Boot (checking both the Enabled and Disabled lists): yes

- tests performed (if any)

- mSATA device manufacturer: Intel

- mSATA device model number: SSDMAEMC080G2

- mSATA device firmware revision: 02M3

- whether the mSATA device was purchased through a reseller or came installed in another system: purchased from provantage

I tried swapping HDDs and the mSATA SDD between both of them.  The only differences between the two are the processor and the i5 has a fingerprint scanner.

Can someone tell me how to get ahold of the older 1.12 BIOS so I can test that on mine?  I only see 1.16 and 1.17 on the official site.

Hi dbrowdy!

Click on the "Learn more" button to see the information for the current BIOS release, and links to the previous BIOS releases:

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Thanks for that.  I show 1.11, 1.15, 1.16 and 1.17 now but no 1.12.  I'll try the others just in case, but still looking for 1.12...

EDIT - Noticed the file names and manually edited the link to grab 8duj04us.exe, which wasn't listed.  I'm guessing that's 1.12.  I'll let you know in a few mins.
