Re: X220 with USB3.0, no mSata SSD possible ?

Hi dbrowdy!

What that means is that although systems shipped with 1.12, it was never made available through the support site. Is there a particular reason you're zeroing in on 1.12?

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

The post I quoted above states that it works on his i5 but not his i7.  The model number is the same as mine but he's using 1.12.  Thought it was worth a shot.  Also, another guy said he tested all those BIOS numbers but 1.12 was not one of them.  *shrug*

Confirmed it does NOT work on my system using: 1.11, 1.12, 1.15, 1.16, 1.17

Totally worth a shot, but it looks like 1.12 is not available anywhere. At least one post in this thread reports 1.12 not working.

Count one in for not working with an mSATA SSD.

4286CTO configuration with Renice Kevlar X3 120GB mSATA SSD and it's not detected in BIOS, unless there's a setting somewhere that I missed that enables mSATA detection or something.

I really hope this is a BIOS issue and not a hardware issue...I'm loving the laptop so far but one of the reasons why I got it so I can have two drives, one mSATA SSD and the other HDD for storage.

Opened my machine again to check numbers on motherboard and on MSATA drive. My Intel 80GB MSATA does NOT work in my X220 with i7-2720 CPU. Below is an update of numbers relevant to my computer.

X220 Machine type 4286CTO, machine shipped May 27, 2011
i7-2720 CPU, 8GB RAM
Motherboard FRU 04W2113
BIOS 1.16
Cannot see MSATA in BIOS>Startup>Boot
Intel 310 MSATA, SSDMAEMC080G2C1 on box, SSDMAEMC080G2 on SSD's sticker, FW: 02M3
MSATA device purchased from Electronica Direct, an Amazon Marketplace seller

This is a deal breaker for me as I ordered the i7 x220 with the intention of putting in an mSata SSD later.

My order has not shipped yet (I ordered on Friday evening) so I guess I will be cancelling it first thing Monday morning.

Don't want to be stuck with a bum unit.

Couldn't find a way to cancel the order online.

New x220 - i5 models for us in Australia off our Lenovo Global Bid.

Model 4291-CD6 (doesn't even register on the Lenovo website as a valid model number!)

Intel 80GB SSD Mini PCIe 310 Series

BIOS Revision 1.12 (cannot update it as model unknown - see first point above)

mSATA SSD not recognised in BIOS - working fine in the T420 i just un-boxed...:smileymad:

Having the same issues with a MyDigitalSSD bulletproof 128 GB and x220T (reported above).  Just talked to lenovo support who told me that they don't support 3rd party hardware.  However since it sounded like a hardware problem with the machine, they were prepared to let me send the x220 tablet for depot service.  They would not send an onsite technician, even though I have paid for it, because it was 'troubleshooting' a third party drive.  She mentioned that if I had a lenovo supported drive, it would be more likely that an onsite repair could be made.  So those of you who have a lenovo supported part (intel 310 or whatever), you might be able to get onsite replacement of the system board.

I politely declide the depot service, and will likely be returning the machine before my 21 day window expires if a solution is not found.
