X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full).

Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this?

Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars.

Thanks for any help!

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

Hmm.  Well I tried removing/replacing the ram an nothing worked.  Let me see if I have another stick around here somewhere to try.

Have a look clearly on the RAM slots connectors. Perhaps the pins are damaged or shorted.

All the pins look pristine.

This happened after the BIOS froze for a LONG time and I had to reset.  Pretty sure that what did this and killed the system board.  That beep sequence says it can be DIMM or System Board in the documentation I found.

Re: X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

Ok, no idea what changed, but I have the LCD back.

I get 2 errors after the :enovo splash screen.

1.  Check you clock, yada yada.

1.  Non-volitile memory is about full.  Press F1 to enter setup.

Only F1 does anything, and even then it just shows a cursor in the upper left corner that just stays there (no blinking).  Then it freezes and has to be rebooted to start that all over again.

Thoughts?

Just so you can imagine what I am saying a bit easier Smiley Happy

I press the power buttoin and boot.  I get the LENOVO splash screen.  Whether I hit Enter to to go the menu or not, I get this:

Error.jpg

After I press F1 (the ONLY button that does anything besides the power button powering it off), I get this:

blank.jpg

No flashing; it is just frozen on the screen.  I have also tried to attach a CD with the BIOS utility... but as it cannt even get past this point, I can't pick what to boot from or flash the BIOS :/

It sounds like the motherboard is not well.
