I got an X230 a few months ago and the power key has stopped working. It doesn't spring back like the other keys and pressing it has no affect.
My laptop is under warenty so I plan on contacting the store I bought it in about a repair but I'm wondering is there any way for me to use the laptop in the meantime? Does anyone know a way to turn the laptop on without using the power key?

in the BIOS menu, under power management, you can use the option to switch ON the laptop by just re-attaching the AC adapter.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if this is a basic question but do you know how I access the BIOS menu? Normally I would interrupt the startup but I can't get that far without pressing the power key.

The CMOS battery is under the keyboard. It looks like the attached image. If you disconnect this, along with the main battery, the machine will start when you connect AC power.
My overall solution was to get a new keyboard but this allowed me to use the machine while waiting on the delivery.

Hello, I am not very IT, how could I do that? At this time I am using the sleep button, instead of the power button. But a rather use what you suggested to complety turn off the computer and not have the battery drainning becuase the laptop is unplugged. Would you guide me. Not sure where is the BIOS MENU. Thank you.
