New X230 here running Windows 8 Pro. For some reason, I always have the Windows Touch Keyboard in the taskbar. I have stopped the Pen and Touch service and unchecked it in the Taskbar -> Toolbars. Everytime I reset/power up, it's back.
Any ideas what is causing it to appear every time?

Unfortunately, I do not think that there is a setting or way to do this as of yet in Windows 8. Windows 8 is geared toward touch-computing, so it does make sense that this setting would always be available, even if it can be rather annoying. I was able to get it to turn off and not open the touch keyboard, but I was not able to make the icon disappear permanently. I attempted to remove it by ending the service, messing around in msconfig, etc., but I was not able to get it to not appear upon a reboot or cold boot.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
