I recently purchased the Mini Dock series 3 (USB 2.0) version to hook up 2 monitors.
However, when I plugged in my X230 to the docking station and connected my Samsung 906BW monitor via the DVI port, the monitor is not recognized.
When I unplug the DVI cable, the monitor says "Signal not detected", which makes me think that the port appears to be working. However, I cannot get that monitor to work in the DVI port.
Any help?
FYI: I am running the preinstalled version of Windows 8
Thanks.

Hi, deviationz
I have a few questions that should help in understanding where the issue lies:
1) Do any of the display outputs on the docking station work?
2) Does the monitor work if you plug straight into the computer?
3) When using the docking station, is anything visible on the external monitor? Is it just a blank screen?
Thanks in advance,
Adam

Adam,
I think I may have it working now.
I got a VGA cable, plugged it into the docking station and that fired up my external monitor. Then I unplugged the VGA cable and hooked the same monitor with a DVI cable. It mysteriously started working.
Not sure what triggered it, but it looks like it worked. I am getting another monitor in the next couple of days, which I plan to hook up.
Can I use a DVI splitter and hook up two monitors from the same DVI port on the docking station or does it require me to use a DVI and VGA?

deviationz,
That's great! Glad to hear it's now working!
According to the Personal Systems Reference for your system, the graphics card should be able to support "dual independent resolution" You should be able to use a splitter, though this will only give you the same image on both external monitors. If you want the external monitors to each have their own images, then it would be best to have one DVI and one VGA.
Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi again, deviationz
Using a splitter will simply "split" the image. Both of the monitors will have the same thing on them at all times. Since only one port is being used, the computer will send the same image to both. So it will clone the image from the first monitior. To get the monitors to display items separately, you will need to use VGA for one and DVI for the other, or you will need to use a docking station to get two DVI ports.
Hope it helps,
Adam

I recently bought a Lenovo Displayport to DVI cable in order to hook up my external monitor using DVI rather than VGA. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
I am using the Mini Dock Series 3 (USB 2.0).
The monitors work as follows:
Both work --> One using VGA + One DVI
One works --> VGA or DVI
When I plug in Displayport to DVI, it doesn't work.

Have you got any other ideas?
I have made everything I have found on the web.
