X230 - swapping out HD for SSD - questions

X230 2306 CTO here. I am about to replace the 320GB hard drive with a 256GB Samsung 830 SSD. I will use the factory rescue and recovery disks to install Windows 7 on the SSD. I'm still confused about a few things.

Is the SSD already formatted or do I need to format it? If I need to format it do I do that before initiating the factory recovery process or do I do it during the recovery process?

Should I download and install the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology Drivers? Do I do this before I start the recovery process?

Do I need to do anything about aligning partitions?

Thanks!

Re: X230 - swapping out HD for SSD - questions

If you plug in the drive and run the Lenovo restore, it should partition the drive, install Win 8. and drivers, and have it all perfectly aligned (Win. 8 does that automatically on it's install to a new drive anyway).  Once loaded, just use the Lenovo Update software to bring everytihng up to date and you'll be good to go.

That's what I did and it was completely issue free.  Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I should have mentioned that I have Windows 7 (Home Premium). I assume what you said about Windows 8 applies to Win7 as well.

Yes, 7 will partition and align as well.
