X230 trackpoint buttons not working after keyboard replacement

Hi everyone

I'm in a bit of a pickle. My old keyboard on my x230 (running win10 pro) was utterly worn out so I decided to replace it which is easy enough. However now the mouse buttons for the trackpoint are not working. The trackpad and the trackpoint itself along with the rest of the board work "flawlessly" but not the three buttons for the trackpoint. I'v tried removing and reinstalling the Synaptic drivers, both the newest version and an older one recomended on a different forum. I have triple double checked the board connection is firmly attached and that all the settings in both BIOS and the synaptic panel are set as normal but still no luck. Any help or advice to solve this would be greatly appriciated.
