X230i Wireless Adapter

2017-02-01, 1:47 AM

I picked up a "recycled" X230i and decided get it running today.  First I installed Windows 10, (new HDD, new ram, new battery, and AC adapter) and it went pretty smooth, save one thing... no wireless adapter? **bleep**? The small green indicator is lit green as though it's working, and the switch is on, but that only seems to affect the bluetooth adapter.  I tried fn-f5 for radios and it switches it to airplane mode and back.  So I got frustrated with this angle and decided to install Win 7.  I am having the same issue, no wireless adapter driver, sigh... I do as much googling as I can stand and I can't stands no more.  If anyone could help me with this, that would be great.

It is possible that there is no card installed, but check in the bios under security/i-o port access.  See if the wireless card is disabled

There is a card installed (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205), and it is turned on in the bios.

And by installed I mean, I actually opened it up and found the wireless adapter.

After a good night's sleep, I approached it from a different angle.  I harvested another card (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205) from a T530, which I had refurbed earlier.  It (the T530) had no problem connecting wirelessly within Win 10 setup.  They coincidentally use the same card, so I was optimistic.  I felt even better when the T530 wouldn't connect anymore after I put the X230's card in it.  I found a new card on eBay for about 5 bucks so I'm happy.

TL;DR  Bad wireless card was the issue.
