X240 Laptop overheating

Hi,

We have x240 laptop on warranty.

Cpu average temp 80+ C

Already replaced cooler with fan.

I know that i7-4600U max temp is 100.

But it looks strange for me, without any load the core temp is 75-80......

Any ideas?

Thanks

Was the old thermal place cleaned up from the heatsink and CPU and a new thin layer of paste applied?

I would also check with TaskManager if you don't have background processes running in the background that have a high load on the CPU.

What opertaing system are you using?

Regards

Re: X240 Laptop overheating

In this case I'd check if the heatsink is properly seating on the motherboard. It needs to make full flat contact with the CPU and the screws properly tightened.

The amount of paste is also important, a very little amount is needed. Then you need to make sure to distribute a very thin layer of paste on the CPU die. Which brand of paste are you using?

Re: X240 Laptop overheating

I understand, you will need to call them again and tell them what happened. It seems there is either a problem with the replacement or with the X240 itself.
