Re: X240 and X240s new software: Lenovo InstantOn Beta

What about the lenovo battery manager?

Where can I find the software that manages the battery charge and prevents it from being fully charged?

Does this Application in beta stage includes something to manage that?

Thank you

PS: I am assuming the battery is ok and there is some Lenovo software managing the Battery efficient by preventing it from charging sometimes (based on some configuration?) but I cannot find this application.

This thread has nothing to do with your topic.

The application does not manage battery levels or do anything else besides what I described in the first post.

Great idea!

Feedback:

1. Downloaded the Beta executable.

2. Clicked on it.

3. Accepted the Windows 8 UAC popup.

4. Selected English as the install language.

5. Message popped up saying: "Cannot install on this system."

Running Windows 8 64-bit on an X240.

Also the marketing blog link:

http://lenovocentral.lenovo.com/blogs/easyresume/2014/03/13/hello-world/#comments

Returns a "Web page not available" error.

Is it ok to carry the laptop around when it is on InstantOn?  I'm thinking of normal storage in a bag and walking around.  So (a) can the (spinning) hard disk handle this? And (b) does the CPU fan still need to vent heat?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

InstantOn is NOT OK for a spinning HDD, this is why it won't install on your system.  The error message should have been more specific.  Sorry about that.

Not sure I follow the part about the spinning HDD. Typically the HDD is spinning in order to install programs.

No problem in any case. Will return to this when the product is fully rolled out.

What I meant is that we don't want this software to be installed on HDD systems.  It is only for SSD systems.

Got it.  InstantOn is only for SSD systems.  Worth saying that somewhere in the request for beta testers.  Thanks.

Hi Someotherguy,

Why isnt this software going to be available on Windows 7? Most businesses dont use Windows 8 as much as Windows 7 so your logic doesnt make sense unless your specifically aiming this at Consumers rather than Corporate users.

Because it uses OS functions that are only available in Win8.1
