I don't know the origin of this laptop - as I said it before I purchased it on eBay for m project and the sale was final.
Everything (except the power shut-down) appears to work. I got the Windows 10 running and got Linux Ubuntu 14.04 working (display dimm doesn't work with Ubuntu yet).
I am getting by the shut-down issue by using the sleep/hibernation mode instead. So far so good.
I will try to replace the CMOS battery and see if it brings me any luck.
Thank you all for the advice.

The power button issue disappeared after 3 days on AC adapter - I guess the coin battery got enough energy from power suply.
Experts on this forum have adviced that my this X250 laptop might have been a pre-release engineering unit and BIOS update problem may not be fixable. The laptop appears to work just fine in the last 2 days, both in Windows 10 and Linux Ubuntu, except this BIOS update failure.
Thank you all very much for the advice.

I just got a used X250 from CraigsList. Having the same problem. Can reset by removing power to coin and internal batteries, but if I shutdown, now power and can't restart.
Did replacing the coin battery fix?
