X250 Uefi windows 7 Installation

2016-03-06, 17:47 PM

Hello

I have problem installing windows 7 on my X250 laptop.

I am using crucial mx200 because of Opal 2 enycrypiton.

I have  disabled Secure boot, enabled UEFI only boot. But when i am installing Windows 7 from USB key i get error: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

and the status 0xc000000d

Usb was created with rufus tool, i have even try with creating manualy (http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html

If I boot of usb cd-rom instalation stops at starting windows(the first starting windows not the one after you select disk and all that stuff).

anyone has a solution maybe?

I have had better luck setting boot to be "UEFI first" and turning off secure boot for the install.  Set them back they way you want them after installing.

Windows 7 does not work with secure boot enabled only with it off or it will alert about BCD isn't verified or something like that

Will this way encryption still work?

I don't need secure boot because of win 7 installation.

What sort of encryption do you need?

Also when creating UEFI Windows 7 make sure you set in Rufus GPT UEFI not LEGACY or if it says MBR

I need hardware encryption (opal 2 standard) so no bitlocker and other software. As far as I know this kind of encryption works only with uefi and gpt partitions.

I have selected fat32 and gpt uefi installation in rufus yes.

Try keeping it as NTFS instead of fat32 on USB since I noticed when I create a bootable windows 7 USB it puts format to NTFS instead of fat32

Make sure you have CSM support enabled.  It's required for UEFI Win 7.  The symptom is often Windows hanging at the "dancing balloons" stage.
