well i meant about you mentioning that flash drive to be GPT that part you must of missunderstood since rufus do not turn usb device into GPT :)

I'm not a Rufus user.  I've seen many posts talking about it making a GPT flash drive but I take your point. Perhaps its "Partition scheme and target system type" option was referring entirely to the target system, not the install flash drive.

Fair enough.  Just downloaded and ran Rufus to create a UEFI bootable Win 7 HP flash drive.  You may find the screen snips below interesting ;)

Apologies to the OP if we've taken this thread too far off into the weeds.  Just trying to sort things for the benefit of other readers.

The above snip is the host machine where Rufus is running, not the target machine.  The 14GB drive (Disk 3) is the flash drive.  Clearly flagged as GPT.

My screen shot clearly shows that the USB flash drive is GPT.  That's what the 14GB drive is.

I'll go clarify that in the above post.

Re: X250 Uefi windows 7 Installation

okay well thats odd then since i doubt it's GPT due to format box bellow is NTFS not GPT so what i think is diskpart is picking the USB up as GPT due to it's files inside it is made for GPT or something or it emulates GPT on usb but usb alone is NTFS or FAT32.

Update: Exactly usb alone wont be GPT it's gona be w.e format you set it to in program but it will emulate image on it as GPT/UEFI so when you boot into it the os act on GPT/UEFI mode instead so then diskpart picks usb up as GPT but truth is USB is still FAT32 and not GPT.

Since you can emulate the devices to act as dvd player or w.e you want lately so i guess Rufus emulates usb as GPT but format is still FAT32.

Update 2: What i also came up now is that it could be that it uses GPT only for volume layout instead on usb that might be thing of what rufus does which is main thing it comes up as GPT since UEFI uses diffirent volume layout than what LEGACY does.

The flash drive has GPT partitioning. That's pretty unequivocal. DISKPART is showing us the reality.

Partitioning and formatting are two entirely separate things. The flash drive partitioning can be GPT or MBR. On top of that the formatting can be FAT32, NTFS, or something else.

I don't think we're doing the OP much good at this point. Let's wait for a report back.
