Re: X250 Uefi windows 7 Installation

2016-03-07, 18:17 PM

If you want to install Win 7 in UEFI mode from a flash drive, the drive needs to be FAT32 and active flag off.  (The active flag may cause the installer to boot in legacy mode unless the BIOS is set to UEFI only.)

[edit] It also requires some manipulation of the files as the OP linked up-thread:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html

For the installation to complete and Windows to boot regardless of install media you need UEFI boot mode with CSM support enabled.

Re: X250 Uefi windows 7 Installation

weird since whenever i made my windows 7 USB it has allways been NTFS and installations under UEFI and LEGACY has worked fine with it :/ so i don't get point that FAT32 is needed

Also rufus tool detects what format is required by .iso so if rufus puts NTFS as default then it should work since i have used it without a problem.

So if I understand correctly...

USB stick as rufus suggest (fat32 and gpt partition for UEFI). Boot mode UEFI only with option CSM support=YES. (If we check manual http://www.manualslib.com/manual/913926/Lenovo-Thinkpad-X250.html?page=100)

when you select a iso it will suggest automaticly the times i have selected windows 7 .iso it changed fat32 to NTFS as default it never mentioned fat32 for me so yeah :/ but main point is to make sure you have CSM enabled when running UEFI on windows 7, also don't forget to keep Secure Boot disabled due to secure boot does not function with windows 7 while windows 8 and 10 has support to work with secure boot enabled.

Yes.  It isn't required that the flash drive be GPT partitioned. MBR works fine.  If Rufus likes to make a GPT drive that's probably OK.  Haven't ever tried that.

you miss understood what it means by gpt and uefi it doesen't make USB into that format it only makes files adjusted to work for UEFI or LEGACY ;) so when you put UEFI and GPT it will put windows files so EFI is inuse instead of normal legacy file :) that way windows will use GPT mode instead of MBR. While usb is in NTFS.

I understand perfectly well, thank you :)

The language in the OP's post seemed to imply otherwise. I was trying to make sure there was no confusion since it seemed unclear.
