X250 installing Windows 7

I have a Lenovo X250 with Windows 8 and want to install a clean version of Windows 7 on it without the Lenovo bloatware, am I able to downgrade to Windows 7 from 8 or can I install Windows 7 from disk without having to purchase Windows 7, I have a set of lenovo windows 7 recovery disks but you can't install the OS without the extra software, I know I can install it and remove the software but I don't want it there in the first place just a nice clean Windows 7 install.

Cheers

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

Hi Ace_Rimmer,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

The recovery media which you are having is same MTM (Machine Type Model) of ThinkPad X250 then you can use it. If it is different MTM then it may not go with your model X250.

Note: request you to perform recovery media for your Windows 8 OS and then do the required changes for your HDD.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

Hi, the X250 came preinstalled with Windows 8, I have a set of Windows 7 recovery Media sent by Lenovo for this model (X250) but I just want to install Windows 7, not the extra software that comes with it, this is to test a Corporate image set up so needs to be plain Windows 7 & and drivers only, is there a way for me to install Windows 7 only and have it activate.

I have 4 disks that were received, 2 Operating System disks and 2 Application and Drivers disks, the X250 won't boot from the Operating System disks, only the application disk but it the installs all the extra Lenovo software which I don't want.  Apart from installing all the software and then removing it once set up is there a way to install or downgrade to Windows 7 only.

Thanks

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

make one clean install...check this out...

Note: you need to change the UEFI setting to legacy & need to disable secure boot from BIOS mode....

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

Hi Ace_Rimmer,

Thank you for the reply!

If you are having Windows 7 Product key sticker provided with the system then you can download Windows 7.iso file from Microsoft and you can perform the installation.

Note: you need to change the UEFI setting to legacy & need to disable secure boot from BIOS mode.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

Hi, I did have a look at this but it mentioned nothing about activation, I installed windows 7 manually and it wouldn't activate, it's a Windows 8 system so doesn't have a COA.

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

Hi Ace_Rimmer,

In this case I think you have to do double work on Windows 7 installation. Means first you have to install Windows 7 from the recovery media and use 3rd party tool to recover product key information and then use that key after performing Windows 7 clean installation.

This option is not suggested by Lenovo, I am just thinking this might work so we should give a try on that.

Hope this helps.

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

Hi Hemanth

Just trying this, I have the product key but it wont activate "A problem occurred when Windows tried to activate" Error code 0xC004E003. I get no options to contact Microsoft to resolve it either.

Re: X250 installing Windows 7

Hi Ace_Rimmer,

Did you try with updating your Windows product key? Use the below link for the steps. Do not connect the system to internet (LAN/Wifi) it will prompt you for phone line activation with procedure, follow onscreen instruction.

Error message when you try to activate Windows 7

Hope this helps.
