X250 without Backlit keyboard?

So I got a great deal on a slighlty used X250, but after using it for a bit realized it did not come with the backlit keyboard.  My spacebar does not have the little light symbol on it and obviously FN + Space Bar does nothing.  My impression was that the X250 backlit keyboard came standard on all X250's regardless of configuration.  Any ideas?

Re: X250 without Backlit keyboard?

Hi and welcome, Gunnder

If you purchased laptop in the Lenovo Canada on-line store or similar, backlight keyboard should be an only one option for x250. I don't see another options, in any case.

Models with fixed configuration (i.e.not CTO) might have different type of keyboards, depending on the laptop model.

ThinkPad 25 Anniversary Edition. Special. Signed by D.Hill. #Retro
T470p | X1 Carbon Gen3 • WQHD | Miix 2 10" | Yoga Tablet 2-1050F (Android) + BT Keyboard
ThinkPad Stack • 2.4/5 Wireless Router, HDD 1 TB, BT Speaker, Power Bank, Mobile Projector

Re: X250 without Backlit keyboard?

Yes that is the only option in the Canada store. Keep in mind I bought this second hand, so maybe it was a  fixed business model? I checked warranty info and it says Canada with warranty until 2018, so that was a nice surprise with the 3 year warranty, but disappointment without backlight. But I'll take 3 year warranty over backlight any day.

If you want to make sure what keyboard type laptop was manufactured with, provide laptop MTM (10-symbols code) if it's not a CTO model. Otherwise, send me laptop' s/n via the forum Private Message sevice.

Re: X250 without Backlit keyboard?

Hi, is it possible to replace a non-backlit keyboard in an x250 with a backlit one, and have the backlight work properly?

Yes. Backlit and non-backlit keyboards for the same ThinkPad model are physically interchangeable. AFAIK all ThinkPads that support backlighting have the electrical wiring installed regardless of the type of keyboard shipped.

See https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x250_frubom_20160106.pdf

Note that Lenovo gets these keyboards from at least two manufacturers, Chicony and LiteOn. If you like the feel of your current keyboard use the FRU number to determine who made it and order a backlit version from them.

Re: X250 without Backlit keyboard?

hausman what you probably meant is laptop has a slot for backlight cable next to keyboard main cable slot Smiley Happy

Laptop iself do not have wiring for keyboard since cable for that is part of keyboard itself so yeah.
