X270 20K5 IPS Panel Upgrade

2020-09-19, 15:28 PM

I own a X270 Type 20K5 - Model 20K5S27R00

According to the Lenovo Parts Lookup site , and after inspecting my LCD panel by removing it, I have the 'AUO 12.5"HD A' TN panel, (Part Number: 04X0324), model B125XTN01 HW0A (see attached).

I would like to upgrade to an IPS panel.

Using the Lenovo Parts Lookup site, I conducted two different searches, one based on model and another on type.

1) X270 (Type 20K6, 20K5) Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 20K5 - Model 20K5S27R00

2) X270 (Type 20K6, 20K5) Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 20K5

The model search returns one LCD panel, which is obviously the exact same one I have: 'AUO 12.5"HD A', (04X0324).

However, the type search returns 7 different LCD panels, of which, some are specified as IPS:

'IVO 12.5 HD IPS AG', (00HN856), M125NWR3 R0

I found conflicting information on whether this is an IPS panel.

Here, it is specified as an IPS panel, albeit with 262k colours instead of the regular 16.7M colours

Here, they specify it *with* 16.7M colours.

This seems to be based on the Revision (00 = 262k, 01 = 16.7M) as described at panelook.com.

But here, they state it is *not* an IPS panel:

I found similar conflicting information for other compatible "IPS" models also.

'LGD 12.5" HD IPS AG;, (00HN839), LP125WH2-SPT1:

I already tried the LP125WF2-SPB2, which although is a 290.5mm wide 12.5" IPS panel with a bottom-right eDP connector, is not a recommended compatible model.

The screen didn't work and gave a series of Lenovo's tonal beeps.

The rest of the IPS panels have the eDP connector in the middle, so they're not compatible.

Could the IVO M125NWR3 R0 be the only 290.5mm wide IPS panel with 16.7M colours, an eDP connector in the bottom-right?

If anyone has another suitable IPS panel model that is compatible with the X270 20K5 or 20K5S27R00, please let me know.
